Dr. Tonia Johnson
P.T., DPT, MHA Administrator VP, Operations
Dr. Tonia Johnson is a native of Washington, D.C., and has more than two decades of experience in the healthcare industry. As an adept medical professional, she has served in leadership roles within the Mid- Atlantic region. She is currently the Vice President of Operations at Not-For-Profit-Hospital-Corporation, and her focus is providing quality patient-focused care to underserved communities east of the river.
After witnessing the aging population in her community grow increasingly dependent upon pain medications due to functional impairments and chronic diseases, Tonia decided to make a difference. After high school, she attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL, and completed a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy. She then moved back to her hometown to further her education and received a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Maryland, University College in College Park, MD. After a few years of learning the healthcare business, she returned to patient care, but not before completing a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Marymount University in Arlington, VA.
After graduate school, she started her professional career as a travel physical therapist in neurorehabilitation. In 1997 she became a certified clinical instructor with the American Physical Therapy Association. Tonia used this knowledge to teach staff and patients about ergonomics and managing pain after acute injuries. While working in hospitals and outpatient clinics, she began teaching adult neurorehabilitation to physical therapy students as an adjunct professor at Marymount University.
While many may know Tonia as a servant leader, she also enjoys traveling, catching up with friends, and being outdoors in her free time. In addition, she loves family and family time and considers herself blessed to be both a wife and a mom.
