Dr. Timmy Le
Treasurer
Timmy Le is currently a Biomedical Science Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) in Worcester, MA (pronounced: “Wu Stir”), who is preparing to defend his Ph.D. work in August 2025. During this time at UMass Chan, Timmy earned various fellowship grants, a national award for his scientific work, and was inducted into the Sigma Xi International Scientific Research Honor Society. Prior to his appointment at UMass Chan, Timmy earned a B.S. in Biochemistry (cum laude) with a minor in Theology and Religious Studies at The Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, D.C. During his time at CUA, Timmy discovered his passion for teaching and communicating science to non-scientists along with advocating for individuals facing healthcare disparities. This passion led Timmy to spend a few years participating in various medical trips abroad (Haiti, Cambodia, and Vietnam) with various non-governmental organizations after finishing his undergraduate studies. One of these trips involved advocating for children with cerebral palsy through education and by sharing his life story with families and children living with cerebral palsy in Vietnam. Afterwards, he earned a M.S. degree from the University of Hartford. During his time at the University of Hartford, Timmy earned numerous departmental, university, and state awards for his scientific work and community service. One of these awards was for developing various neuroscience outreach programs during “Brain Awareness Week.” This work is geared towards underrepresented middle school students in Holyoke, MA and the Greater Hartford, CT area. These past experiences have taught Timmy how to be an effective advocate and scientific communicator. As a board member of the Sickle Cell Coalition of Maryland, he hopes to apply his biomedical science expertise by advocating for the sickle cell community and educating those who are outside of it who would like to learn more about sickle cell trait.
