Advocating for Sickle Cell Care Where It Matters Most—Locally

The Sickle Cell Coalition of Maryland partners with counties across the state to improve care and support for people living with sickle cell disease (SCD). From raising awareness in schools to improving hospital response and access to local resources, we work to ensure every county is a safe, informed, and supportive place for sickle cell warriors and their families.

Moving Mountains for All Sickle Cell Warriors

At the Sickle Cell Coalition of Maryland, we’re committed to breaking down barriers so every sickle cell warrior has access to quality care, dignity, and meaningful support. From shaping policy to launching community-based programs, we’re moving mountains to ensure no one is left behind.

Through our advocacy—alongside the Maryland Sickle Cell Association, Dr. Sophie Lanzkron, and Rudy Williams—we helped secure the Pathways Grant, which led to the opening of the first sickle cell center in Prince George’s County. This center, built on a hub-and-spoke model in partnership with Johns Hopkins and UM Capital Region Medical Center, now serves patients throughout PGC and the surrounding counties. Together, we’re building a future where care is equitable and every warrior is seen, heard, and valued.
